From 20 April to 8 May, the Archdeacon of The Murray, the Ven David McDougall paddled down the Murray River as part of Hope25.
Hope25 was a great initiative supported by Anglicans all around Australia, reaching out and sharing in an authentic way that Jesus offers us a real HOPE.
To raise awareness of the Spiritual and Social Justice needs present in our Rural Towns, Fr David volunteered to paddle the length of the Murray in our Diocese. Others assisted by way of support crew, including Br Simon, the Administrator of The Murray!
Beginning at Renmark, and continuing in each of the towns listed, the crew stopped for a free BBQ fellowship and Communion service using the Sacred vessels from the PS Etona. Members of local churches and community members gathered to help Fr David and Br Simon gain an understanding of the social needs of that community. It was a ‘listening tour’, where they asked questions and recorded responses to gather information to help the Diocese conduct mission in a more informed way.
Along the way, Fr David recorded brief River Reflections, following the New Testament readings from Morning Prayer. We encourage you to watch these helpful biblical reflections.
The River Run services were held in these towns.
